Fear of loss is a path to the dark side

Posted on Jan 27th, 2006 by yodacallmesome : Beware the Dark force yodacallmesome

In keeping with my character, here is my version of the exchange in episode III:
[my comments/dialogue in square brackets]

The scene is Yoda speaking with the young jedi, who is disturbed
by the nightmares of loosing his wife. He tells the master Yoda
of his fears.
The wise Yoda responds:
"Fear of loss is a path to the dark side. [Understand you must]
Death is a natural part of life."
"Rejoice for those around you who transform into the force."
"Mourn them do not, miss them do not."
[Love them you do, see this I can, good this is. Enjoy this
now, for we know not what tomorrow will be.  But beware ]
"Attachment leads to jealousy, the shadow of greed that is."

    "What must I do master?"

"Train yourself to let go of everything to fear to loose."
[Only then can you realize freedom from the forces of the dark side.]

This response is interesting because it shows him the path, but
knowing the path, and walking the path are quite different things. In the end
Anikin gives into his fears, only to find that in doing so his fears are realized.

Ghandi was asked just hours before his assasination if the non-violent
resistance to government would have worked with a more harsh, less
honorable foe than the Brits. His answer was affirmative, but that it would require the type of committment and sacrifice Yoda speaks of.

Those who are pushing for war in Iran (because of their fears) may find themselves
on a path similar to that of Anakin.
